TERMS & CONDITIONS

By subscribing to the above plans, you agree to abide by our following additional terms and conditions

  1. Municipal Government Fees: Trade License government fees are decided by the respective Municipal Corporation or Urban Local Body of your city. The fee depends on factors such as business activity, premises size, trade category, and local municipal rules. We share the exact government fee after reviewing your business details.
  2. Applicable Municipal Laws: Trade Licenses are governed by the respective State Municipal Acts and local municipal bye-laws. Since every city has its own rules, document requirements, inspection process, and fee structure may differ from one municipal authority to another.
  3. GST on Professional Fees: All our professional fees are exclusive of GST @ 18%.
  4. License Validity & Renewal: In most cities, Trade Licenses are valid for one financial year and require annual renewal. Delay in renewal may attract late fees, penalties, or cancellation by the municipal authority. We provide renewal reminders and guidance as per your selected plan.
  5. Scope of Service: Our service covers Trade License application drafting, document support, municipal portal filing, coordination, and basic query handling. The number of licenses, amendments, and renewal support depends on the selected plan. Additional filings or amendments may be charged separately.
  6. Trade License vs Shop & Establishment Registration: Trade License and Shop & Establishment Registration are different compliances. Trade License is issued by the Municipal Corporation, while Shop & Establishment Registration is issued by the Labour Department under state labour laws. Depending on your business type and location, both registrations may be required.
  7. Refund Policy: Full refund of professional fee (less Rs.499 documentation handling) is available if the trade license application is not submitted within 5 working days from receipt of all required information + municipal fee. Municipal fees already paid to the Corporation are non-refundable as per municipal bye-laws.
  8. Services Not Included: The base service does not include Fire NOC, Pollution Control approvals, Factory License, FSSAI License, GST Registration, Shop & Establishment Registration, building approval, environmental clearances, litigation support, or appeal handling unless specifically mentioned in your selected plan.
  9. Inspection-Based Approvals: Certain businesses such as restaurants, hotels, manufacturing units, clinics, food establishments, and hazardous trades may require physical inspection by municipal officials before approval. Inspection timelines are controlled by the respective municipal authority. Any correction or compliance requirement identified during inspection must be completed by the applicant.
Trade License Registration by Legal Terminus

Legal Terminus Priority ⚖️

Trade License Registration may look simple, but every Municipal Corporation follows its own rules, portal system, trade categories, inspection process, and renewal requirements. Even a small mistake in business category selection, document filing, or inspection coordination can lead to delays, rejection, penalties, or renewal issues. With LT Priority, your Trade License Registration is handled by experienced municipal compliance professionals who manage the process carefully from application filing to final approval and renewal guidance.

What You Get:

  • Priority application processing and faster filing support
  • 📑Correct trade category selection and professional document review
  • 🏛Support across major municipal corporations with inspection coordination and premises readiness guidance
  • 📅Annual renewal reminders, compliance tracking, and dedicated real-time status updates throughout the process

Important Notes:

  • Operating WITHOUT a Trade License = the Municipal Corporation can SEAL your premises, issue closure notices, refuse / disconnect utility connections (water, sewerage, sometimes electricity), levy penalty + per-day surcharge, and prosecute under the State Municipal Act. Don't operate ungazed — file before you open the shutter.
  • Trade License is DIFFERENT from Shop & Establishment Registration. Trade License = municipal compliance (under your State's Municipal Act). Shop & Estd = State labour compliance (under State S&E Act). Many businesses need BOTH. We assess overlap in the discovery call and avoid double-paying.
  • Trade categories matter. A 'general trade' license can NOT be used for food / hazardous / manufacturing / hospitality activities — each has its own category, its own fee, and often its own inspection regime. Wrong category = license cancellation + re-application. We map the right code first time.
  • Annual renewal is mandatory — many cities by 31 March, others 30 days before expiry. Late renewal triggers penalty of 50-100% of fee + per-day surcharge in some cities. Two consecutive missed renewals can trigger cancellation — then you re-apply from scratch.

Why You Need a Trade License

A Trade License is an official approval issued by the Municipal Corporation or local authority that allows a business to operate legally from a specific location. It is commonly required for shops, offices, restaurants, clinics, factories, warehouses, and other commercial establishments to ensure compliance with local regulations and safety standards.

Operating without a valid Trade License may lead to penalties or regulatory issues. Since licensing requirements vary based on business activity and location, we help you identify the correct category, prepare the application, and obtain the license smoothly.

04

Hazardous / Storage License

Existing licensees needing: annual renewal, address change, trade-category change, partner / proprietor change, premises area change, or voluntary surrender. Same Corporation portal, separate workflow. Late renewal recovery handled in Enriched / Supreme tiers.

Benefits of Trade License Registration in India

Trade License is not bureaucratic friction — it's the civic green-light that unlocks your premises. Here's what matters:

Legal Right to Operate from the Premises

The Trade License is the Municipal Corporation's express authorisation that your activity is permitted at that premises + zone. Without it, the Corporation can SEAL your premises any time, refuse / disconnect utility connections, and prosecute under the State Municipal Act.

Utility Connection Eligibility

Commercial electricity, water, and sewerage connections in most cities require either a valid Trade License at application OR are tied to it for tariff / category determination. No Trade License = either no commercial connection or higher-tariff domestic connection (which itself may be illegal for business use).

Brand + Premises Credibility

Modern landlords + co-working operators + property managers REQUIRE valid Trade License before lease execution / renewal. B2B clients, government tender authorities, modern-trade buyers, and large customers conducting vendor due-diligence routinely ask for the trade license copy.

Investor + Loan Readiness

Banks, NBFCs, and investors evaluate Trade License compliance as part of standard due-diligence on the business premises. A missing or lapsed license is a deal-killer for working capital loans, MSME credit, and venture funding. Renewed Trade License = compliance discipline signal.

Avoid Civic Penalties + Sealing Risk

Operating without Trade License = per-day penalty + sealing risk + utility disconnection + prosecution. Cost of compliance (Rs.500-Rs.50,000/year) is a fraction of the cost of non-compliance (revenue loss from sealing alone runs into lakhs / week for retail / restaurants).

Co-ordination with Adjacent Compliances

The Trade License often anchors a wider compliance stack — Fire NOC, Pollution NOC, FSSAI, Shop & Estd. Holding a valid Trade License simplifies the others (most ask for the Trade License number / copy as supporting evidence). Supreme tier co-ordinates the full stack so nothing slips.

Trade License Registration FAQ's

Here, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about Trade License registration, process, and documentation to guide you through every step confidently.

A Trade License is an approval issued by the local Municipal Corporation or Urban Local Body that allows a business to operate from a specific commercial premises. It is regulated under the respective State Municipal Laws and is generally required for shops, offices, restaurants, warehouses, clinics, factories, salons, and most commercial establishments.
No. Both are different registrations issued by different departments. A Trade License is issued by the Municipal Corporation for permission to carry on a business activity from a premises. Shop & Establishment Registration is issued by the State Labour Department and regulates employee working conditions, holidays, and labour compliance. Many businesses may require both registrations.
Any person or business carrying on commercial activity from a physical premises may require a Trade License. This includes retail shops, restaurants, cloud kitchens, offices, gyms, clinics, warehouses, hotels, workshops, salons, manufacturing units, and service businesses.
In many cities, yes. Even online businesses or home offices may require a Trade License if commercial activity is being conducted from the premises. Rules vary from city to city, so we verify the applicability based on your business activity and location.

Trade License cost has two parts:

  • Professional Fee – charged for documentation, filing, coordination, and support
  • Municipal Fee – charged by the local authority based on city, business type, area, and category

Municipal fees vary widely depending on the location and nature of business.

In most cities, general trade licenses are issued within 10–15 working days. Businesses requiring physical inspection — such as restaurants, manufacturing units, clinics, hotels, or hazardous trades — may take 20–30 working days depending on municipal inspection schedules.
Every Municipal Corporation has separate categories for different businesses. Filing under the wrong category can lead to rejection, penalties, cancellation, or fresh application requirements. We help identify the correct category before filing.
For many general businesses, licenses may be issued online without inspection. However, food businesses, factories, clinics, warehouses, hotels, and hazardous trades usually require physical inspection by municipal or fire authorities before approval.
In most cities, a Trade License is valid for one financial year and must be renewed annually. Some Municipal Corporations issue multi-year licenses depending on the category and local rules.
Late renewal may attract penalties, additional fees, or cancellation of the license. In some cases, the Municipal Corporation may issue notices or seal the premises for non-compliance.
Operating without a valid Trade License may lead to penalties, sealing of premises, utility disconnection, or municipal action under the applicable State Municipal Act. It is always advisable to obtain the required approvals before starting operations.
Generally, no. Separate branches or business premises usually require separate Trade Licenses from the respective Municipal Corporation or local authority.

Commonly required documents include:

  • Aadhaar Card or ID proof
  • Address proof of business premises
  • Rent Agreement or Ownership Proof
  • Electricity Bill or Property Tax Receipt
